MCU100 MediaCentral | UX for Users

The MediaCentral | UX for Users (MCU100) course teaches students to utilize workflow by changing the way media professionals access, create, share, and manage media. Designed to accommodate a wide array of workflows, MediaCentral | UX provides real-time media access through a web browser or desktop application and access to the iNEWS scripts and rundowns or Interplay | Production media via iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android Devices.

In this course, students learn to utilize the vast resources available in the Interplay | Production and iNEWS systems to develop stories and add media, log content, record voice overs, and send the final story sequence to playback. Topics such as MultiCamera or Closed Captioning workflows, Media | Index and Media | Distribute, and Customizable Logger may also be covered depending on the customer environment.

The MediaCentral | UX for Users (MCU100) course prepares individuals for the Avid Certified User: MediaCentral | UX certification exam.


This course is designed for television news or post production facilities who will use the robust features of Avid MediaCentral | UX to view, log, and edit content. News producers, Loggers and other news staff will also benefit from learning how to use MediaCentral | UX to view and modify stories and iNEWS queues and to search for media assets in Interplay | Production.


There are no prerequisites to this course.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Log in and customize the MediaCentral | UX layout
  • Search and view assets in the Interplay | Production and iNEWS systems
  • Create stories
  • Add production cues and machine control instructions to story scripts
  • Understand Video Logging
  • Add media to the a sequence
  • Manage audio and add voice over audio
  • Output content as a still image, MP4 file, or send content to a playback device
  • Use the MediaCentral | UX mobile application to view, create, and modify stories or view media
  • Use iNEWS top-line or MediaCentral Messaging to communicate with team members
  • Understand Multicam editing and closed caption
  • Be ready for the associated certification exam
